As this school year comes to an end, I want to thank you for allowing me the opportunity to get to know your children. I have completely enjoyed my time with them. I hope they have learned skills that will help them in the future. Not just a knowledge of geography and cultures but the ability to think critically and outside the box. I hope the technological skills they have learned will help them compete in the 21st century.
Please remember to visit us Thursday night from 4:30-6:00 p.m. for our Culture Fair Open House. The students worked very hard on their projects and are excited to show you their knowledge, technical expertise and creativity.
Students are getting ready for MAP testing. Research shows that students who follow a schedule, (eating, sleep, study time) do better on standardized tests. Help your student put their best foot forward by making sure they eat a good breakfast and get plenty of rest. The Map window begins April 12th and ends the 19th. On May 7th students will have the opportunity to go to World Fest at Silver Dollar City. This is the culminating activity for the Culture Fair. They will be required to see at least 2 culture exhibits. Due to the recent snow storms, we are behind in our Culture Fair Project. Therefore, the Culture Fair Parent Night has been rescheduled for April, 7th, 2011 from 4:30-6:00 P. M.
It's the first day back after an almost 2 week snow break. The students are pretty excited, partly due to the break and partly because of Valentine's Day. It seems even in 6th grade, "love is in the air". The students are currently working on the webquest Go Make A Difference. Thank you for supporting your child and our school. Together we are making a bright future for our world.
January already!! The students are learning about Ancient Indians currently, but are looking ahead to our next webquest. They will be learning about cultures from around the world and become inventors intent on changing the lives of the people of the world for the better. You can check out the webquest mrsbock1.weebly.com or simply go to the Lessons Page of this website.
Now would be a great time to ask your student if they need to replenish their school supplies. It seems as if we always have a shortage of pencils. Well it's almost Christmas time. The students are working feverishly on a culture webquest. They are making brochures about the business they have started after coming to America from another country. Their business are making me hungry because a lot of them are restaurants filled with food from the country they came from.
As this will probably be my last post this year I want to wish every one a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. May the coming year be filled with love, health, and wealth. Best Wished, Mrs. Bock October is upon us with turning leaves, cooler temperatures, and the end of first quarter. October 15th is the end of the first quarter with Parent/Teacher Conferences on October 21 and 22. The students have been working vary hard on several different projects including their Bodies of Water maps. You can check out some photos on the student site. Soon we will be starting our Rock Band Project and
Half way through the first quarter already, my how time flies!!! We are about to finish up Chapter 1 in our Social Studies book. It deals with the geography of North America. In the next few weeks we will be preparing for our first chapter test. After that we will be working on 3D Maps of the United States. They are tons of fun and the students show real creativity.
Please remember you can check your child's progress on Infinite Campus on the parent page. The school year has gotten off to a Great Start. The students seem to be settling in and are comfortable with their schedules, lockers, and new teachers. Don't forget to check Infinite Campus for your child's progress in all their classes. Please contact me with any questions you may have.
